In this age, after gaining independence from colonial powers we still face an inferiority complex because of their psychology of the white man’s burden. we don’t need western recognition of what is up to the standard and what is not. Their idea of freedom is different from ours, in their countries during elections booth capturing doesn’t happen but in India, it happens. It is because, as noted by Pakistani thinker Hamza Alvi, in the west, political and economic development were simultaneous unlike in the east where political development overtook economic development. Eastern countries may improve in social and developmental indicators but may not see significant changes in their rankings due to a larger population and fewer resources compared to Western countries. Because they have vast resources to invest in a small population but we have a very large population with comparatively fewer resources.
We have seen many instances like when Western models or actors follow or imitate Indian actors or models follow any Indian actors etc then we consider it as a matter of pride. why this is so? Are they god? There is no difference between us and them There is no point in being proud of it. Feeling proud should come where we have a marginal gap with them or we have overpowered them ex. ISRO is the best example, it delivered Mars Orbiter Mission at a very low cost, even less than a Hollywood movie, this is a matter to be proud of.
English language has been a big thing for us, if someone is not able to speak correct English we humiliate them for it despite knowing that it is not our native language. Our hypocrisy comes when we see any westerner speaking the wrong Hindi then we appreciate them, this is wrong. Jjust as they may not be fluent in Hindi we are not supposed to be that fluent in English, knowing a language is beneficial as it allows for understanding of different cultures but not the most important thing, the most important thing is developing skills and talents which have should have no foundation of language.
