Today we know that we are educated(at least most of us) but are we really educated? We follow old customs blindly without even inquiring about them, not only we don’t try to know their basis, but we justify them. We may have seen many posts justifying how certain ornaments are beneficial for women. If ornaments are that beneficial then why don’t men wear them compulsorily, in Hinduism this is the most regressive thing and it has been adopted by other religions, not only religion but all people mostly females in which they consider it important to decorate their body instead of their mind. There’s a story about why women are required to wear 16 shringars(ornaments). The story goes as follows: There is one demi-god Rati the wife of demi-god Kamadeva(god of sensual pleasure), she is not beautiful physically but wants Kamadeva as her husband who is the smartest man physically in the world. So she worshipped Goddess Laxmi and Laxmiji gave her 16 ornaments to look beautiful so that Kamadeva could get attracted to her and ultimately she found him. Are you able to derive the essence of the story, Rati became just a sex object and Kamadeva was not a good god, how can he be a god when he didn’t choose his wife for inner qualities but on the basis of how she looks.
I surveyed some people, and I found that most of the women if they are not related to any competitive exam don’t have any idea of even what is going out in Russia-Ukraine which has been almost 1000 days since the war began. Such is the level of unawareness in females, they need to shed it. We see many memes and reels generalizing how women are fools, how they even don’t know how to ride a scooter and leave bikes. Whereas men are far from it, why? The simple reason women feel weakness and even admire that weakness to be part of their personality.
Have you ever noticed our movies, video songs, and web series show women mostly show her in revealing clothes even when it is not required? Why? The simple answer is the commodification of women’s bodies. There are multiple women in top positions who can inspire women to be really free but they don’t do it and most of it is unknowingly, one reason they give is don’t teach a woman what to wear, is it logical? just think about it. One more question that arises is why women empowerment or those working for it don’t advocate for making women physically and emotionally strong? Why is that one of the important points about what should they wear? Have you ever seen men talking about what to wear? You are choosing something stupid and considering it powerful and empowering. Most commodification of women happens in our entertainment industry, but women choosing roles do not think about it just accept the roles for money. We know money is important but not that important that you can virtually sell your body to live a lavish lifestyle, what’s the value of your life when you have to sell your body and can’t use your talent and knowledge in the right place. Overcome the need to decorate the body and start decorating your mind then everybody will be attracted to you and you won’t have to care about how you are looking.
We for our own selfish interests can follow anything it doesn’t matter who that person or thing is.
We have become modern but lack the basic essence of it. Modernity started just when the Renaissance began in Europe, so more often than not we connect modernity or being modern with Westernization, and here starts the problem. Modernity has two basic parameters which are being secular and being rationalist. Are we really rational? We follow the thing that at parties only revealing clothes are beautiful for women.
West delves into the idea of materialism which is short-sighted because the ultimate thing the human needs is self-fulfillment and that doesn’t come from the material but from spirituality, but we hardly follow it. We think that by wearing modern clothes we are modern but that’s not true as without inculcating modern values of rationality we can’t be truly modern.
